About

Hi! I’m Shaunta.

That’s me up there.

Uh huh.  A selfie I took sometime in the summer of 2017. With my hair practically buzz cut, because it fell out when I lost weight. And some kind of mess behind me, because there’s pretty much always a mess behind me.

It looks like I at least managed some lip gloss and mascara.

I’m a wife and a mom. (A SOCCER mom.)

My husband and I are the ham and cheese in our little sandwich generation world. We have college age kids, a daughter in middle school, and his parents (who both have dementia) live in our basement apartment.

I’m a writer.  And a reader. And I can never find my glasses.

I’m one semester away from an MFA.

I love to cook. A lot.

I love thrift shopping. Also a lot.

I have some big fat hairy goals that I’m mildly afraid of. (Okay, more than mildly, some days.) (most days.) (hush.)

Like this one: I want to run an Iron Man when I’m 48, which is the age my mother was when she died. I’m 46. Two years ago, I weighed nearly 400 pounds. Uh huh. Told you!

But, I’ve always wanted to that girl.

You know.

The one whose house doesn’t look like the half-way-decluttered shot on an episode of Hoarders.

The one who doesn’t owe anyone anything.

The one who obviously wants to go for a run with you. Anytime.

The one who is comfortable in her own skin AND her own wardrobe.

The one who makes things and does things and has adventures.

I’ve always wanted to be a put together girl.

The thing is, I know how to get what I’ve always wanted.

I’ve lost 120 pounds.

I’ve become a novelist–a working writer who supports her family with her stories.

I haven’t had to work for anyone else for two years.

I’m good at setting a goal and just picking away at it until I reach it.

So this blog . . .

I don’t know if anyone will ever read it. And that’s okay. I just want somewhere to write about that picking away.

No rules.

No weekly schedule.

Just me and you (if you find me) and some recipes and some thrift hauls and some goals and hopefully some progress. And inspiration. Maybe.

P.S. Also, I have the world’s coolest dog. Her name is Maybelline Scout. Mae for short. She’s better at selfies than I am!
